What to expect when you come to physiotherapy
When you first visit a physiotherapist, they will ask you a number of questions about the symptoms/condition that you are seeking help with. These questions will include ones about your general health and lifestyle. With your consent, they will then perform a physical examination which is likely to involve the physio touching areas of your body where you are experiencing pain and asking you to complete various movements and activities.
It may be necessary to ask you to remove some clothing, so the physio can see and touch areas of the body that are causing concern. It may be appropriate to bring clothing such as shorts or a strappy top with you.
The physio will make a diagnosis and discuss a course of treatment with you. This may involve manual therapy (such as massage, mobilisation or acupuncture), some exercises that you can do by yourself and some lifestyle changes.
